Launching a business in any industry can be challenging. Doing so in an industry you aren’t familiar with can be even more daunting. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to “stay in your lane” — it just means you’ll need to take a few extra steps to prepare yourself and your company for success.
14. Remember that business development skills are transferable.
If you’re a baker, you shouldn’t necessarily run a bakery; even though you are skilled within your industry, you may not have the time or ability to scale and develop the business. However, business development skills are transferable across industries. It’s a concept explained in one of my favorite business books, The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber. It’s a quick and worthwhile read.
